Licence lookup

These are official government portals, free to use, and they work for any facility — including ones we have never written about.

🔎
Two different documents people confuseAn operating licence belongs to a FACILITY. A practising licence belongs to a PERSON. A licensed facility can still let an uncertified person operate — and that is a violation. Check both.

When a portal changes its address, that triggers an immediate re-review of every page linking to it — we do not wait for the 12-month mark.

Four things to check, in order

1
Find the facility on your city’s portal

Note which DATA GROUP it appears in — medical facility, or beauty service facility. They are different legal categories allowed to do different things, and most serious incidents fall in the overlap between the two.

2
Read the approved scope of practice

The licence states which techniques the facility may perform. Compare it against what you intend to have done. Working outside the approved scope is where harm most often happens.

3
Check the PERSON who will operate, not the brand

An operating licence belongs to a FACILITY; a practising licence belongs to a PERSON. A licensed facility can still let an uncertified person operate — and that is a violation.

4
Ask for the advertising-approval number

Advertising a medical service in Vietnam requires a prior content-approval certificate from the health department. Ask to see its number and check it.

Going abroad?

Several countries run official registries for facilities serving international patients. Korea, for example, requires both hospitals and broker agencies to register, and since 2016 registered facilities must carry medical liability insurance.

✓Check the facility is in that country’s official registry
✓Ask exactly how the broker agency is paid — that fee is often hidden in the price
✓Budget for a second flight, not for the best case
✓Collect your full operative record and implant details BEFORE you leave
On flying after surgeryCDC advises not flying for 10 days after chest or abdominal surgery. ASPS, cited by CDC, advises waiting 7 to 10 days after laser or cosmetic procedures to the face, eyelids or nose. Your own surgeon decides your actual timing.
A licence is a minimum, not a guaranteeIt says nothing about skill, and nothing about the outcome of one particular operation. Someone who concludes “I checked the licence, so it is completely safe” is wrong in a new way. Use the 18-item checklist as well.
Public data lagsWhen a lookup does not match the paperwork a clinic shows you, ask the health department directly — do not reason it out yourself. A mismatch can have an administrative explanation, and it can also not have one.
What this library does not doWe do not certify any facility, we issue no safety badge, we keep no list of recommended places — publicly or internally — and there is no process by which a facility can pay to be considered. Why, and how that is enforced →
